Tuna Pictures: Get to Know Their Physical Features and Common Species
Tuna is a group of large pelagic fish widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters, collectively known as the tribe Thunnini in the family Scombridae. As seen in pictures, tuna usually has a spindle-shaped body, streamlined and sturdy, with the back typically dark blue or blue-black and the belly tending toward silvery white; this color combination helps them stay concealed in the ocean and makes it easier to hunt.
Tuna commonly shown in pictures include bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna and albacore. Different species vary in body size, fin shape and coloration; for example, yellowfin tuna has distinctly yellow dorsal and anal fins, while albacore has relatively long pectoral fins. Observing these details helps identify the specific species from pictures.
Many people easily confuse tuna with salmon or sardines. When telling them apart from pictures, note that tuna has smooth skin, a crescent-shaped tail fin, and an overall swift and powerful posture; salmon often has spots along its sides, while sardines are obviously much smaller in size. In addition, tuna meat is mostly dark red, which also differs from the orange-red flesh of salmon.
Tuna occupies a high position in the marine food chain, feeding on small fish and cephalopods, swimming fast and migrating long distances, and is an important commercial fish. When choosing tuna pictures, it is advisable to select photos that clearly show the overall form, body color and fin features, as this makes it easier to recognize its appearance and to compare it with similar fish species.
