Big-leaf Euonymus Pictures to Help You Quickly Recognize This Evergreen Hedge Plant
Big-leaf euonymus is a very common evergreen shrub or small tree in landscaping. Botanically it belongs to the genus Euonymus in the family Celastraceae, and its proper name is usually written as Euonymus japonicus. Although its name contains the words "yellow boxwood", it is not the same kind of plant as the boxwood of the family Buxaceae, and when looking at pictures you can tell them apart by leaf shape and texture.
In pictures, the leaves of big-leaf euonymus are leathery and glossy, mostly oval or obovate, with finely serrated margins, and the branches are dense with a full, rounded form. New leaves are lighter in color while older leaves are dark green and shiny, and it stays green all year round, which is also why it is one of the easiest plants to recognize in pictures of all kinds of landscaping scenes.
Common cultivated varieties also include golden-edged big-leaf euonymus, silver-edged big-leaf euonymus and golden-centered big-leaf euonymus, whose leaf margins or centers carry yellow or white markings, making them even more ornamental. When searching for pictures, these variegated varieties show rich layers of color and are clearly different from purely green plants.
Big-leaf euonymus tolerates pruning well and sprouts vigorously, and it is often trimmed into hedges, spheres or various topiary shapes. It is widely used in road median strips, courtyards and plaza landscaping, and some people also grow it as a potted plant. Browsing related pictures can provide intuitive reference for choosing planting forms and pruning shapes.
It should be noted that big-leaf euonymus is easily confused with true boxwood, privet and other evergreen plants, and it can usually be distinguished by leaf size, texture and fine marginal teeth. If the plant in a picture shows yellowing leaves or spots, it is mostly related to the growing environment or to pests and diseases, and it is advisable to consult care references for further judgment.
