The orange tree is an evergreen tree of the genus Citrus in the family Rutaceae, and is one of the common fruit trees in China. Its leaves are leathery and glossy, it bears small white fragrant flowers, and its fruit is mostly orange-yellow and spherical or oblate, with tender, juicy flesh that is sweet and tart and pleasant to the taste. The orange tree likes a warm, humid climate and cannot tolerate severe cold, and it is widely planted in many provinces in southern China.

In terms of varieties, common oranges can be broadly divided into ordinary sweet oranges, navel oranges and blood oranges. Navel oranges have a navel-like protrusion at the top of the fruit and are generally seedless with tender, fiber-free flesh; blood oranges have reddish flesh; and ordinary sweet oranges are known for their abundant juice and rich flavor. Different varieties differ in their adaptability to climate, so before planting you can choose a suitable variety based on local temperature, light and soil conditions.

In terms of care and management, orange trees are best planted in deep, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. During the young tree stage, apply light but frequent fertilizer to promote robust shoot growth; after entering the fruiting stage, prune rationally to keep the canopy ventilated and exposed to light. Water promptly in dry seasons, and pay attention to drainage during the rainy season, while also watching for common pests and diseases such as scab, canker and red spider mite, so as to detect and control them early.

The orange tree not only bears fruit rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, but also has a beautiful shape and stays green all year round, making it suitable for courtyard cultivation and ornamental care. When growing it at home, as long as you ensure sufficient light and proper water and fertilizer, you can also harvest fruit. If beginners encounter situations such as yellowing leaves or fruit drop, these are mostly related to water imbalance or insufficient nutrients, and can be gradually improved by promptly adjusting management measures.
