Pothos is an evergreen climbing plant in the genus Epipremnum of the Araceae family, also known as golden pothos or devil's ivy. Its stems and vines are slender, its leaves are emerald green, and some leaves have yellow-white markings. Aerial roots readily grow at the stem nodes. It can be grown either in soil or in water, and it is one of the most common foliage plants in homes and offices.

Purifying the air is pothos's most widely known function. Its leaves can adsorb some of the dust in the air and also have a certain absorption effect on common renovation odors such as formaldehyde and benzene. Together with the humidifying effect brought by water transpiration, it helps improve the indoor environment. Placing a few pots of pothos in a newly renovated house is a choice many people make, but it can only play a supporting role; opening the windows for ventilation is still the more important way to remove odors.

Pothos's ornamental value is equally outstanding. Its vines can hang down naturally, or they can be guided to climb a support to form a pothos pole. It stays green in all four seasons. Placed in the living room, study, or on a windowsill, it can add vitality to the indoors. Looking at green plants after using your eyes for a long time also helps you relax.

It should be noted that the sap of pothos contains irritating components such as calcium oxalate. Accidental ingestion can cause discomfort in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, and people with sensitive skin may also itch after contact with the sap. Households with young children or pets should place the plant out of reach, and it is best to wear gloves when pruning or repotting.

In terms of care, pothos likes a warm, humid, semi-shaded environment. It fears strong direct sunlight and also fears long-term waterlogging in the potting soil. In daily care, just place it in bright indirect light. During the growing season, keep the potting soil slightly moist. In winter, move it to a warm place indoors and avoid direct cold drafts, which can reduce yellow leaves and keep the branches and leaves glossy green.
