When you keep potted plants, have you ever run into this situation, where sometimes weeds grow in the pots, and what did you do at the time, just pull those weeds out?

Actually, what the editor is saying is that even old gardeners do not touch these weeds in pots, because they have many uses. Let's take a look!

Preventing potted plants from root rot

Keep a few weeds properly in the potting soil. When the above severe weather occurs, choose the moment when heavy rain suddenly clears, and pull out 2-3 small weeds from different parts of the pot, which can greatly reduce the occurrence of root rot disease, and the efficiency is very high. This is because the root rot of potted plants follows the same principle as the root rot of crops: both are caused by excessive moisture in the underground part of the plant roots and poor soil aeration, leading to difficult breathing of the plant roots and thus root rot.

Moisture meter

Leave a few weeds properly in the pot to observe the dry and wet conditions of the potting soil. If it is a moisture-loving bonsai plant, when the pot weeds are slightly wilted, it needs watering; for bonsai plants that need to be slightly dry or have water controlled, water again when the pot weeds are completely wilted. This is because weeds generally have strong vitality and revive as soon as they see water.

Loosening meter

Because the root system of weeds is relatively well developed, frequently pulling out weeds can loosen the potting soil and improve the permeability of the potting soil, which is beneficial to the growth of bonsai plants. Moreover, when we observe whether the soil is compacted, we can try this method: take a wild grass, and if it can be pulled out with the roots, it proves that the potting soil is loose; if it cannot, it proves that the potting soil is compacted and needs to be adjusted in time.

Tiny weeds still have so many uses. If there are weeds in the potted plants at home, do not foolishly pull them out anymore!
