Shenjinglan is a variety name in orchid cultivation and has a certain reputation among orchid enthusiasts. Most orchid varieties are named after their place of origin, breeder, or flower color and leaf variegation, and the name Shenjinglan carries the same kind of mark. It is prized for its elegant flower color and upright plant form, and many orchid growers list it as a variety worth noticing and collecting.

Shenjinglan continues the refined and understated character of Chinese orchids, with slender leaves and a spreading posture, and when it blooms, the flower color is delicate, giving an overall clean and neat look. Like many varieties known for their flower color, the depth of its color varies with light, temperature, and the strength of the plant, which is also what makes it rewarding to look at. For ordinary orchid growers, growing the plant strong and letting it bloom well is more practical than deliberately pursuing some extreme flower color.

In terms of care, Shenjinglan has requirements similar to most Chinese orchids, preferring a warm, humid, well-ventilated, semi-shaded environment. The growing medium should be loose and airy, and can be mixed from granular materials such as bark and Kanuma soil; watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, avoiding long-term water accumulation in the pot. Light should mainly be soft, diffused light, with shading and cooling in summer and appropriate warmth in winter, and fertilizing should be light and frequent. What orchid enthusiasts often call growing orchids by storing shade refers to creating a suitable shady and humid microclimate for orchids, and this idea also applies to Shenjinglan.

For beginners growing Shenjinglan, problems mostly arise with watering and ventilation; watering too frequently and a stuffy, humid environment can easily cause root rot, which is also one of the common misunderstandings in orchid growing. When buying seedlings, it is advisable to choose plants with healthy roots and intact leaves, and to buy through proper channels to avoid inferior goods being passed off as good ones. Placing it on a balcony, in a courtyard, or in a bright indoor spot can both decorate the environment and make it suitable for daily enjoyment and exchange with orchid enthusiasts.
