The Golden Koi is a classic variety in the koi family, its entire body covered in scales with a metallic luster. Its body color is mainly a bright golden yellow, and under light it looks as if gilded, which is how it got its name. It has a stout body and a steady swimming posture, and although it is a single color, it has a very strong presence and is often used to accent courtyard fish ponds.

From an appreciation standpoint, a good Golden Koi is judged by the uniformity of its luster and body color. The scales are neatly arranged, the head is clean and glossy, the pectoral fins spread out powerfully, and the overall golden color is neither dull nor whitish, giving the best ornamental effect. Because of its single-color nature, any stray spots or color patches will noticeably affect its quality.

The Golden Koi is also the breeding foundation for many metallic koi lines. Through continuous selective breeding, varieties such as Yamabuki Ogon, Platinum Ogon, Matsuba Ogon and Orange Ogon have been developed, each with its own distinctive scales and body color. Kept together with traditional varieties such as Kohaku and Taisho Sanke, it can also create striking color contrasts.

In terms of keeping, the Golden Koi has a relatively strong constitution, grows quickly and eats a lot, making it suitable for fish ponds or large tanks with ample space and good filtration. In daily care, keep the water clean, change the water regularly and remove waste from the bottom of the pond, and feed at fixed times and in fixed amounts. Observe its appetite and body surface condition often; if abnormalities such as rubbing against the pond, a white film or rotten fins appear, isolate it promptly and treat it accordingly.
