Nitro compound fertilizers have a quick effect and are suitable for topdressing dryland crops.
Nitro compound fertilizer refers to compound fertilizer whose nitrogen contains nitrate nitrogen. It is mostly made with ammonium nitrate and other materials as the nitrogen source and produced through a granulation process, while also containing nutrients such as phosphorus and potassium. Compared with ordinary compound fertilizers based mainly on urea or ammonium nitrogen, its nitrogen form is different, and its fertilizer effect also shows clear differences.
After nitrate nitrogen is applied to the soil, it does not need to be transformed and can be directly absorbed by the roots, so it takes effect quickly, and after topdressing the crop regains its green color relatively rapidly. However, nitrate nitrogen is highly mobile in the soil and is easily lost through leaching with water, so it is generally not recommended for paddy fields and is more suitable for dryland crops. Some nitro compound fertilizers on the market use potassium sulfate or potassium nitrate as the potassium source and do not contain chloride ions, so chloride-sensitive crops such as tobacco and potato can also use them.
In terms of application, it is mainly used as topdressing and can be applied by flushing with water, or by furrow application or hole application. It is used more often in scenarios such as protected vegetables that need rapid nitrogen supplementation. In low-temperature seasons, crops absorb ammonium nitrogen more slowly, while nitrate nitrogen is affected relatively less, so it is often chosen for topdressing in winter greenhouses. When used as a base fertilizer, it is best to combine it with varieties that have a lasting fertilizer effect and to control the amount well, so as to avoid excessive vegetative growth or loss caused by too much nitrogen.
For daily storage, attention should be paid to moisture protection. Nitro compound fertilizer easily absorbs moisture and cakes, so it should be placed in a cool, dry, and ventilated place, away from fire sources and flammable materials. When purchasing, check the nutrient content and nitrogen form marked on the packaging, choose the formula according to the crop type and growth stage, and combine application with reasonable watering so that the fertilizer effect will be more stable.
