Compound fertilizer has comprehensive nutrients, high content, and good physical properties, but during application, three issues should be noted:
First, select the variety of compound fertilizer according to the soil and crop, only in this way can its fertilizer efficiency be brought into play. Cereal crops such as rice, wheat, and corn (2348,3.00,0.13%) require more nitrogen fertilizer, so nitrogen-phosphorus compound fertilizer can be selected; leguminous crops can fix free nitrogen in the air, so phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer can be selected; some cash crops can be given three-element or multi-element compound fertilizers suited to local soil and climate conditions.
Second, compound fertilizer should be applied in combination with single-element fertilizers. The nutrient composition in compound fertilizer is fixed, and only by applying it in combination with various single-element fertilizers can the nutrient requirements of crops at different stages be met. Generally speaking, compound fertilizer is suitable as a base fertilizer, while single-element fertilizers can be used as a topdressing applied during the peak and critical periods of crop nutrient demand.
Third, the method must be appropriate. In various compound fertilizers, the proportions and forms of various nutrients are different, and given different soils and crop types, the fertilization methods should also differ and be treated differently. Clayey soil has strong fertilizer retention and should be applied deeply; sandy soil loses fertilizer easily, so it can be applied in small amounts multiple times. For compound fertilizers containing ammonium nitrogen, they should be applied deeply and covered with soil to reduce losses; for compound fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium nutrients, they should be applied in a concentrated manner near the roots, which both avoids nutrients being fixed and facilitates crop absorption and utilization; for the expensive potassium dihydrogen phosphate, it generally should not be used as a base fertilizer, but is suitable as a foliar topdressing or for seed soaking.
