The care method for the money tree is very simple, and mastering light and watering is the key
The money tree is an evergreen foliage plant with an auspicious meaning, and it is well loved by households and shops because of its lucky name and generous shape. What is commonly called the money tree usually refers to the Malabar chestnut, scientific name Pachira aquatica, which belongs to the Malvaceae family, genus Pachira; some sellers also call the Queensland umbrella tree a money tree, and when buying you can tell them apart by leaf shape.
The common money tree has a thick stem, with a swollen, bottle-shaped base that can store a good amount of water, and its palmately compound leaves stay evergreen all year round, looking spread out and vigorous. Plants on the market are mostly several stems braided together, and there are also single-trunk and clumping forms; placing one in the living room, office, or by a shop entrance is very suitable.
For care, the money tree likes warmth and bright, indirect light; in summer avoid harsh sun exposure, and in winter pay attention to keeping it warm and preventing frost damage. It is drought tolerant and afraid of waterlogging, so the potting soil should be loose, breathable, and well draining; follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry out between waterings, preferring dry over wet, because standing water in the pot can easily cause root rot.
During the growing season, apply light fertilizer frequently, mainly diluted liquid fertilizer, and reduce water and fertilizer in autumn and winter when growth is slow. If the leaves turn yellow or drop, it is most likely related to overwatering, insufficient light, or a sudden temperature drop, and you should promptly check and adjust. Keep ventilation going as usual, and regularly turn the pot so the plant receives light evenly, which will make the leaves even glossier and greener.
The money tree not only decorates indoor spaces, but also carries the beautiful meaning of bringing in wealth and treasure, and it is often used as a housewarming or business-opening gift, making it a very popular indoor green plant.
