What should you do when a kaffir lily's flower stalk gets stuck?

The kaffir lily (Clivia miniata) is a flower deeply loved by gardening fans, with emerald, upright leaves and large, vivid blooms that look very impressive. But the thing people fear most when growing kaffir lilies is a stuck flower stalk; once it happens, it is a real headache. Today Huahua will share a few good methods with everyone so your flower stalks hurry up and grow out~

Method one: shut it in a dark room

After all that trouble, your kaffir lily finally grows a flower stalk, and then it gets stuck! Don't worry, shut it in a little dark room and the flower stalk will shoot out in about a week~

Specific method:

Put the kaffir lily with the stuck stalk into a dark room with no light, or wrap the kaffir lily in a black, non-transparent plastic bag, then check again after a while, and the flower stalk will have grown out~

Method two: water it with a little baijiu

Is your kaffir lily's flower stalk squeezed in the leaf core and unable to grow out? Give the kaffir lily a little baijiu, and the flower stalk will grow out very quickly~

Specific method:

Find a little baijiu, not the kind with too high an alcohol content; a small liquor cup of the kind used for drinking baijiu, one cup is enough, about 20~30ml, then dilute it with water at a ratio of 1:20 and pour it into the potting soil, and the kaffir lily's flower stalk will quickly push out.

Method three: ensure a temperature difference of 10℃ or more

One possible reason for a kaffir lily's stuck flower stalk is room temperature; if the room temperature is too high or the day-night temperature difference is small, you generally need to increase the day-night temperature difference, which helps the kaffir lily's flower buds differentiate and sprout~

Specific method:

At night, put the kaffir lily in a cooler place such as a balcony, but make sure it stays above 7 or 8℃; during the day you can move it indoors. This ensures a day-night temperature difference of 10℃, and the kaffir lily will not get a stuck flower stalk.

Method four: increase the amount of watering

Because they worry about kaffir lily root rot, many gardening fans reduce watering in winter, but this may actually be the reason for a stuck flower stalk.

Specific method:

After the kaffir lily has pushed out its flower stalk, you can appropriately increase the watering frequency, watering once a week; if you are worried that watering too often will cause root rot, then water normally, and after 4 or 5 days spray water on the leaves, but be sure not to let the water fall into the leaf core when spraying.

What should you do if a kaffir lily does not bloom for 3 or 4 years?

Many gardening fans complain to Huahua that their kaffir lily at home has been grown for 2 or 3 years, and several pairs of leaves have grown, but no flower stalk appears. In this case, you can give the kaffir lily some fertilizer~

One: feed the kaffir lily some sunflower seed fertilizer

The kaffir lily is a flower that especially loves fertilizer, and it particularly favors oil-bearing crops; leftover sunflower seed shells, once treated, make good flower fertilizer for kaffir lilies~

Specific steps:

1. Collect the sunflower seed shells left after cracking seeds, making sure they are the plain original-flavor kind, rinse them several times with clean water, put the shells in the sun to bake, spreading them out to dry for 2 or 3 days.

2. When repotting the kaffir lily, you can spread a thin layer of sunflower seed shells at the bottom of the pot; this can effectively prevent waterlogging and root rot, and at the same time the shells slowly release nutrients, letting the kaffir lily grow better~

Two: give the kaffir lily some big bone soup

If a kaffir lily does not accumulate enough nutrients, it is not easy for it to bloom, so we can give it some big bone soup to supplement the nutrients needed for growth.

Specific steps:

1. Soak leftover big bones or pork ribs from ordinary meals in clean water for 1 or 2 days, smash them, put them in a pot and boil for 40 minutes, let them cool, then put them in a plastic bucket, add brown sugar, seal and compost, releasing the gas every 3 or 4 days.

2. When the fertilizer liquid turns black, it is ready; pour out the upper clear liquid and dilute it with water, with the ratio of fertilizer liquid to clean water being 1:40; after mixing evenly, water the kaffir lily with it once a month, and the kaffir lily will grow glossy green and upright~

After mastering these 4 little tips,

you no longer need to worry about kaffir lilies getting stuck flower stalks~

The flower stalks will shoot right out!
