When the Radermachera (China Doll) drops leaves, find the right cause and adjust accordingly to help it recover

The Radermachera sinica, commonly known as the China Doll plant, has emerald-green branches and leaves and an auspicious meaning, making it a common indoor foliage plant. Leaf drop is fairly common during care. If only a small number of old leaves at the bottom turn yellow and fall off, it is mostly normal metabolism and nothing to worry about; but if a large number of leaves drop in a short time, it means something is wrong with the environment or the care, and you need to investigate promptly.

There are several main causes of leaf drop: long-term insufficient light or sudden exposure to strong sun can both prevent the leaves from growing normally and cause them to fall; improper watering is also very common, as long-term soggy potting soil easily causes root rot, while long-term drought causes the leaves to lose water and drop; sudden temperature changes also have an obvious effect, and low winter temperatures, direct cold drafts, or prolonged exposure to air-conditioner or heater airflow can all trigger heavy leaf drop. In addition, a newly potted plant is in its acclimatization period, so dropping a few leaves is a normal reaction.

When dealing with it, first feel the potting soil to judge whether it is too wet or too dry, then decide whether to reduce or add water. Move the plant to a spot with bright indirect light and good ventilation, and avoid moving it around frequently. In winter, keep it warm and away from drafts and heating vents. If leaf drop is severe and the branches are soft, you can take it out of the pot to check the roots, cut off the rotted parts, and replant it in fresh, loose, airy soil.

For routine care, keep the environment stable, water according to the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry out between waterings, and during the growing season you can appropriately add a dilute liquid fertilizer. Rotate the pot regularly so the plant receives even light; when the environment is suitable, the China Doll plant will naturally drop fewer leaves and grow vigorously.
