What to Do When Zamioculcas zamiifolia (money tree) Leaves Dry Out? Causes and Solutions
I. Causes
To get to the root of its leaf drying problem, we need to find the cause and then take the corresponding measures.
1. Improper watering
This is the main cause of its leaf drying problem. During everyday care, if we do not water according to the actual condition of the pot but instead water on a fixed schedule, or if we forget to water, its leaves may dry out.
If too much water is given, water will accumulate in the growing medium, which affects the breathing of its roots; this causes its nutrient supply to fall short, leading to dry leaves.
If too little water is given, it is not enough to support its normal survival and growth, which likewise causes its leaves to dry out.
2. Direct sunlight
Besides watering, prolonged strong light can also very likely cause its leaves to dry out. If the drying appears in summer, this is most likely the cause.
3. Air too dry
If it is kept in a very dry environment for a long time, its leaves will also dry out. If its leaves dry out after being kept for a long time in a dry, stuffy room, this should be the cause.
4. Pests and diseases appear
Besides the three causes above, invasion by pathogens and insect pests can also very likely cause its leaves to dry out. If pests are found on its leaves or stems, we can be certain that the cause of its problem is pest feeding.
II. Measures
Based on the causes above, we give the corresponding rescue measures one by one.
1. First cut off the withered leaves, then water in an appropriate way. Watering does not need to follow a strictly fixed schedule; as long as you observe that the growing medium in the pot is dry, you can water. When watering, be careful to control the amount; do not pour too much at once. Water little by little, several times, until the potting soil is slightly moist.
2. Although it itself likes light very much, it can grow under slightly poorer sunlight conditions, but it cannot grow under overly strong sunlight. If the cause is light, first cut off the withered leaves, then move it to a place with bright but not strong light, or provide it with appropriate shade.
3. Spray some water around it in good time.
4. Observe carefully, cut off all diseased leaves and burn them, then use the corresponding agents to sterilize and kill insects.
