Reasons for Yellowing Leaves on Rhododendron and How to Fix Them
1. Long-term lack of light
Rhododendron is relatively fond of light. Many people do not pay much attention when growing flowers at home and place the plants in spots with insufficient light. As we know, green plants need sunlight to carry out energy conversion, and when they cannot get enough sunlight for a long time, certain substances in the leaves become deficient, which causes the leaves to turn yellow.
Solution: Place the potted rhododendron in a sunny spot with good light for care.
2. Unsuitable temperature
This point deserves special attention in winter. Every plant has a temperature range for growth, so when caring for rhododendron you should strictly regulate its growing temperature and prevent cold damage; only then can you prevent yellowing leaves!
Solution: Keep the room temperature steady, preferably above 10°C. In autumn and winter, when the outdoor temperature is low, move the plant indoors promptly.
3. Improper watering
It likes well-drained soil, and too much water can also cause yellow leaves. This is because when there is excess water, it hinders the physiological respiration of the roots, damaging them. Once the roots are damaged, nutrients cannot be transported normally to the stems and leaves, which shows up as yellow leaves. In addition, untimely watering can also cause the plant to lack water, leading to yellow, dried leaves.
Solution: Water scientifically and reasonably; ideally water when the soil is dry and let it dry out between waterings.
4. Too much or too little fertilizer
Fertilizer is also a crucial factor in this plant's growth. Fertilizer that is too concentrated can burn the roots, damaging them, which then shows up as yellowing on the leaves. A lack of nutrients can likewise cause yellow leaves.
Solution: Judge the amount of fertilizer based on the size of the plant, and it is best to dilute the fertilizer before applying it.
5. Air that is too dry
Sometimes, especially in winter in the north, the indoor environment is rather dry, and yellow leaves appear. Therefore, maintaining suitable indoor humidity is also very important.
Solution: Spray some water around the pot in moderation, or place a basin of water near the flowerpot to adjust the nearby air humidity!
