The peace lily, also known as the white sail plant or spathiphyllum, is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant of the genus Spathiphyllum in the family Araceae. Its flowers are made up of a pure white spathe and a yellow spadix, shaped like a small sailing boat, and it has a long flowering period with leaves that stay green all year round, making it a popular indoor potted plant valued both for its foliage and its flowers, much loved by home gardeners.

The peace lily originates from tropical regions and prefers a warm, humid, and semi-shaded environment, with strong shade tolerance but poor cold tolerance. Its suitable growing temperature is around twenty degrees, and in winter it needs to be moved indoors to keep warm, avoiding cold damage from low temperatures, while also being kept away from spots with direct cold drafts.

In daily care, the peace lily is best placed somewhere with bright, indirect light, and strong direct sunlight should be avoided, otherwise the leaves tend to turn yellow with scorched edges. Watering can follow the principle of watering when dry and keeping it moist when wet; during the peak growing season keep the potting soil moist, and when the weather is dry, mist the leaves and the surrounding area more often to raise humidity. During the growing period, apply a dilute liquid fertilizer about once every half month, and before flowering, supplement appropriately with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to help the plant flower smoothly.

Peace lilies are mainly propagated by division, usually done together with repotting in spring; simply separate the clustered plants and plant them separately and they will survive. It is also very suitable for hydroponics; after washing the roots clean, place it in a clear water container and set it in the living room or study, where it looks clean and fresh with excellent ornamental value.

During care, if the leaf tips are found to be dry and yellow, it is mostly caused by air that is too dry, light that is too strong, or fertilizer that is too concentrated, and it will recover once the environment is adjusted in time. It should be noted that the sap of the peace lily contains irritating ingredients, so when pruning or repotting, avoid direct contact with the mouth and nose; if there are young children or pets at home, the plant should be placed somewhere not easy to touch.
