Introduction to the Origin, Uses, and Seed Sowing and Seedling Raising Methods of Tibetan Papaya
There is a unique papaya variety in our country, and that is the Tibetan papaya. This type of papaya is produced in Tibet, so it was named Tibetan papaya. Would you like to learn about it? Below we introduce it to you, and along the way also explain the seed sowing and seedling raising methods for papaya.
Tibetan papaya is produced in Tibet, and its growing environment has the highest altitude of all papayas. It grows in shrub forests at an altitude of 2660-2760 m, and is mainly cultivated at an altitude of 3760 m in Lhasa, Norbulingka, and other places. This is a papaya variety unique to our country.
Tibetan papaya belongs to the tall tree type. Its fruit has a high lignin content, and the fruit of this type of papaya is not eaten, but it still has many other uses. Tibetan papaya fruit has a high essential oil content and can be processed to extract fragrances, air fresheners, facial cleansers, and more.
Papaya seed sowing and seedling raising methods:
1. Sowing season: Papaya is sown from October to November each year. It is best to do this on a sunny day. This is because frost often occurs between mid-November and mid-January, and sowing at this time helps achieve earlier fruiting and extend the harvest period.
2. Seed soaking and germination: When sowing papaya seeds, we must first scald the seeds with 55°C water, and after they cool naturally, disinfect them with 800 times diluted thiophanate-methyl for 15 minutes, scoop them out and rub them clean with clear water, soak them in clear water for about 10 hours, then scoop them out and wrap them in three layers of wet cloth, and germinate them at a temperature of about 35°C, turning and spraying them with warm water once a day, and sowing the seeds that have broken through their seed coats in time. After 7 days of germination, sow the seeds that have not broken through their seed coats separately. Only in this way can the seeds germinate smoothly.
3. Seedling raising: Use Zhuangmiao No. 1 as the medium for plug tray seedling raising. Cover the top of the plug tray with plastic film to raise the temperature of the seedling bed and promote emergence. After emergence, remove the plastic film.
When the roots of the young seedlings have filled the medium, we should transplant the young seedlings into pre-prepared large nutrient bags or nutrient cups to grow larger seedlings. At this time, the seedling soil should be kept half dry and half wet to slightly dry, which is beneficial to the growth of the young seedlings and their absorption of water. Build an arched frame on the seedling bed with transparent film for insulation, and when there is frost, add another layer of plastic film or straw to prevent the seedlings from freezing.
Now you know what characteristics Tibetan papaya has, and you also know the seed sowing and seedling raising methods for papaya. If you want to grow papaya, then act quickly!
