Cultivation Methods and Key Technical Points for Edible Mushroom Stock Spawn
Cultivating edible mushroom stock spawn is a key step in spawn propagation, referring to the process of inoculating mother spawn onto a culture substrate in a larger container and, after cultivation and expansion, obtaining stock spawn. Stock spawn sits between mother spawn and planting spawn, serving as a link between the two, and its quality directly affects the mushroom production performance of subsequent cultivation.
The choice of substrate for stock spawn is fairly diverse; common options include grain-type substrates such as wheat grains, cereal grains and corn kernels, as well as substrates based mainly on sawdust, cottonseed hulls and the like. Grain substrates are rich in nutrients and allow mycelium to spread quickly, while sawdust and cottonseed hull substrates cost less and are easy to store, so producers can choose reasonably according to the mushroom species being cultivated and their own conditions.
During the cultivation process, several critical points must be strictly controlled. After the ingredients are filled into bottles or bags, they must be thoroughly sterilized; once cooled, they are placed in an inoculation room or inoculation box for aseptic inoculation, minimizing the chance of contamination by foreign microorganisms. After inoculation, the containers are moved into a culture room, where suitable temperature and a relatively dark environment are maintained, and the mycelium can gradually grow throughout the substrate.
In daily management, attention should be paid to observing mycelial growth, and containers found to be contaminated by green mold, Neurospora and other foreign microorganisms should be removed promptly to prevent spread. The culture site should also be kept well ventilated with moderate air humidity, avoiding high temperature and high humidity that can induce disease. Once the stock spawn is fully grown, it should be used as soon as possible to expand planting spawn or arrange production; if stored too long, the spawn is prone to aging and its vigor declines.
