Because of drought in the Philippines, the impact of this extreme weather has caused Philippine mango production to surge, leaving the fruit almost unsalable and sharply skewing the relationship between supply and demand, making Philippine mangoes a “sweet burden” for the country.

According to a June 9 report by the British newspaper The Guardian, we learned that Philippine Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol said mango growers reported an “abnormal increase” in production because the El Nino phenomenon made the weather unusually hot and dry. This has not happened in recent years. Now there are already 2 million kilograms of surplus mangoes on Luzon Island in the Philippines, and the surplus in other regions is even larger. As a result, the price of mangoes has plunged from 58 pesos per kilogram to 25 pesos (1 Philippine peso is about 0.13 yuan).

However, the mangoes are only just beginning to enter their ripening period. As the mangoes ripen one after another, there is still room for the price to fall further, and farmers' interests will also be severely damaged.

Seeing this situation, the Philippine Department of Agriculture has planned a marketing campaign and set up multiple stalls in Manila to sell mangoes. Freshly picked mangoes will be sold at 25-50 pesos per kilogram, and bulk purchases can enjoy even greater discounts. At the same time, mango cooking classes have also been opened to teach people how to make delicious food with mangoes. The government will also hold a mango festival in mid-June to stimulate demand for mangoes.
With Philippine mango prices so low, will the price of mangoes in our country also be affected and fall accordingly? If the price of mangoes in our country falls, I think many people who love mangoes will definitely be overjoyed!
