Key Garlic Sprout Growing Techniques to Help You Easily Grow Good Garlic Sprouts
Garlic sprouts are the green shoots harvested after garlic seedlings have grown to a certain stage. The leaves are green, the white stalks are pure white, and they carry a faint pungent aroma. They are both a common seasoning vegetable and can be stir-fried on their own or eaten as a side dish. Because of their short growing period and strong adaptability, garlic sprouts are a popular planting choice for many people, whether grown in open fields or in balcony pots.
For growing garlic sprouts, choose a plot with level terrain, good drainage, and loose, fertile soil. Before sowing, plow deeply and apply plenty of decomposed organic fertilizer as a base fertilizer. For the seed garlic, select bulbs with plump cloves, no disease spots, and no damage. Before sowing, separate the cloves and grade them, using large cloves as seed so that seedlings emerge more evenly. Generally, place the cloves in the soil with the pointed end up, cover with soil, and water thoroughly to keep the soil moist and encourage root growth and seedling emergence.
After emergence, management focuses mainly on water and fertilizer. Garlic sprouts like moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging, so water little and often, avoiding standing water that causes root rot. During the growing period, apply thin nitrogen fertilizer according to growth to promote leaf growth. Temperatures that are too high or too low will affect growth; in summer, provide appropriate shade, and in winter, pay attention to keeping warm and protecting against cold. Also remove weeds promptly and watch carefully, dealing with pests and diseases as early as possible.
Harvesting garlic sprouts is fairly flexible. Once they reach a suitable height, they can be harvested in batches, either pulled up by the roots or cut and harvested while leaving stubble; after cutting, strengthening water and fertilizer management allows them to continue growing. As long as you master the key steps of seed selection, sowing, and water and fertilizer management, the quality and yield of the garlic sprouts you grow will be better.
