Zucchini Disease Control Methods and Key Points for Identifying Common Diseases
Zucchini is a common cucurbit vegetable, and during its growing period it is easily troubled by a variety of diseases. Common diseases include powdery mildew, downy mildew, gray mold, viral diseases, and Fusarium wilt. The conditions under which different diseases occur and the plant parts they damage vary, and mastering the key identification points is the first step toward effective control.
In terms of symptoms, powdery mildew mostly appears as a white powdery mold layer on the leaf surface, while downy mildew shows up as yellow-brown lesions on the leaf surface. Gray mold often damages flowers and young fruit, and viral diseases cause leaves to crinkle and become mosaic-patterned, with plant growth suppressed. Once abnormalities are found, the disease type should be confirmed as early as possible to avoid misjudgment that delays the timing of control.
For control, the principle of prevention first and integrated management should be maintained. In terms of agricultural measures, varieties with better disease resistance can be selected, crop rotation can be practiced, and reasonable close planting can maintain ventilation and light penetration. Diseased leaves and fruit should be removed promptly and taken out of the field for disposal. Watering should preferably be done lightly and frequently or by drip irrigation under plastic film, to avoid excessively high field humidity that triggers fungal diseases.
When applying chemical control, choose the right pesticide for the disease, control the concentration and pre-harvest interval according to the instructions, and pay attention to rotating pesticides to slow the development of resistance. In protected cultivation, attention should also be paid to ventilation and dehumidification, and physical methods such as high-temperature greenhouse sealing can serve as supplementary measures. Only by taking both environmental and harvest safety into account throughout the control process can the disease be controlled while also ensuring zucchini quality.
