Feed processing technology refers to the series of technical procedures and methods used to process raw materials such as corn, soybean meal and forage grass into compound feed, typically including raw material receiving, cleaning and impurity removal, grinding, batching, mixing and shaping. Its purpose is to improve the palatability and digestibility of the feed while making it easier to store, transport and feed on a daily basis.

Among the main operations, cleaning serves to remove impurities such as stones, metal and moldy grains, which both protects downstream equipment and safeguards feeding safety; grinding increases the surface area of the material, which aids digestion and absorption; batching and mixing combine multiple raw materials evenly according to the formula to ensure balanced nutrition. Depending on the desired product form, the feed can be further shaped through pelletizing, extrusion or flaking.

Reasonable processing technology can break down some of the anti-nutritional factors in raw materials, reduce harmful microorganisms and improve feed conversion rates, thereby lowering farming costs. For example, pelleted feed after pelletizing can reduce selective eating and dust waste by livestock and poultry, while extruded feed is often used for aquatic animals and young animals, helping to improve stability and digestibility.

In actual production, parameters such as grinding particle size, mixing uniformity, and conditioning temperature and time all affect the final quality, and need to be comprehensively regulated according to the target animal, raw material characteristics and equipment conditions. Over-processing may instead cause the loss of heat-sensitive nutrients, so process selection should pursue moderation and stability, and product quality should be ensured through regular testing.
