Enoki mushroom disease control refers to the management techniques used throughout the entire cultivation process of enoki mushrooms (Flammulina filiformis) to prevent and control infection by pathogenic bacteria through comprehensive measures such as substrate treatment, environmental hygiene and regulation of temperature and humidity. Enoki mushrooms are mostly cultivated in mushroom houses or facilities, and the fruiting period features relatively low temperatures and relatively high humidity. Such an environment is suitable both for the growth of the fruiting bodies and for the reproduction of pathogens.

There are quite a few common disease types in production. Bacterial brown blotch disease causes brown spots to appear on the surface of the caps, affecting the commercial appearance; among fungal diseases, green mold often contaminates the substrate, and soft rot causes the mushroom bodies to turn yellow and sticky until they rot; contaminants such as Neurospora tend to break out during periods of high temperature and high humidity, causing mushroom bags to be discarded.

Control should focus on prevention. The substrate must be thoroughly sterilized, strict aseptic operation must be followed during inoculation, and the mushroom house and tools must be cleaned and disinfected regularly; during the fruiting period, the amount of water sprayed should be reasonably controlled to avoid standing water on the substrate surface and prolonged high humidity, while ventilation and air exchange should be strengthened to reduce conditions for contaminants to breed; diseased mushrooms or contaminated mushroom bags found should be promptly removed and taken out of the mushroom house for disposal to prevent spread and proliferation.

After disease occurs, the type should first be determined before targeted treatment. Bacterial diseases are mainly addressed by reducing humidity, ventilating and improving sanitation, while fungal contamination requires timely isolation and destruction of the affected mushroom bags, and when necessary, cautious use of products permitted for edible fungi. Only by persisting in daily inspections and records and doing the management work before disease occurs can the yield and quality of enoki mushrooms be stabilized.
