The white China aster is the white-flowered variety of the China aster (Callistephus chinensis), an annual herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family, genus Callistephus. Also known as Jiangxi aster and July aster, it originated in China and is now commonly seen in courtyards and flower beds in many places. Its flower head is borne singly at the tip of the stem, with snow-white ray florets and a mostly pale yellow center, giving it a clean, elegant and highly ornamental appearance.

China asters come in both dwarf and tall forms, and the white varieties are often used for edging flower beds, mass planting or growing in pots, and can also be used as cut flowers. The pure white flowers look especially refined against green leaves, and when planted together with flowers of other colors they can also brighten the overall landscape.

For planting white China asters, choose a plot with ample sunlight and good drainage, with loose, fertile soil being best. Generally sow in spring, thin and transplant seedlings in time after emergence, keep the soil moist but not waterlogged during the growing period, and supplementing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer appropriately before flowering helps the flowers become full. Note that China asters are unsuitable for continuous cropping; planting them in the same plot year after year tends to lead to weaker growth and more diseases, so it is best to rotate them with other flowers.

In daily care, white China asters need attention to ventilation and drainage during hot, rainy seasons to prevent root rot. Common pests include aphids and red spider mites, which should be dealt with promptly once found. Dust on the white petals affects the ornamental effect, so spraying water to remove dust or tidying the plants appropriately after rain can keep them clean and fresh at all times.
