Lan'er is not the formal scientific name of any single plant; it is more often an affectionate term used by flower enthusiasts for orchid-type flowers. In everyday conversation, people commonly refer to the orchids they grow at home, such as Cymbidium goeringii, Cymbidium faberi, and Oncidium, collectively as Lan'er, a name that sounds warm and rolls off the tongue. These plants are known for their elegant flower shapes and delicate fragrance, and have long been regarded as among the finest indoor ornamental flowers.

In terms of growing habits, Lan'er mostly prefers a warm, humid, well-ventilated, semi-shaded environment, dislikes direct strong light, and fears water accumulating in the pot. Its roots are mostly fleshy roots, which can store nutrients and water while also requiring good aeration, so bark, sphagnum moss, leaf mold, and other loose, well-draining media are often used for cultivation. Mastering the balance among light, water, and air is the key to growing Lan'er well.

In daily care, Lan'er can be placed on a windowsill or balcony with diffused light, with shading noted in summer and moving indoors for warmth in winter. Water according to the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, preferring dry over waterlogged, and frequently mist the leaves and surrounding area to maintain a certain air humidity. During the peak growing season, apply light fertilizer frequently, choosing orchid-specific fertilizer or dilute organic fertilizer, and avoid strong fertilizer that burns the roots; when light is insufficient for a long time, a plant grow light can also be used for proper supplementation.

The problems beginners most often encounter when growing Lan'er are failure to bloom and yellowing leaves, mostly related to insufficient light, overwatering, or poor ventilation; adjusting the placement and watering frequency in time will generally allow gradual recovery. Lan'er has high ornamental value, can decorate a home and cultivate one's character, and common varieties are moderately difficult to care for, making it very suitable as an entry-level choice for home flower growing.
