Tianzhu Gui usually refers to geranium (Pelargonium), a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Pelargonium in the family Geraniaceae, also known as zonal geranium, fish geranium, and rose geranium. It is native to southern Africa, and because of its strong adaptability and long flowering period, it is now widely cultivated around the world. Its plant form is compact, the stems are fleshy, and the leaves are round or kidney-shaped, often bearing a dark horseshoe-shaped ring pattern, with a distinctive scent when rubbed. The flowers are arranged in clusters as umbel-like inflorescences, commonly in red, pink, white, orange and other colors, and when cared for properly, flowers can be seen almost all year round.

There are many horticultural types of Pelargonium, commonly including zonal geranium, regal geranium, scented geranium, and ivy geranium. Zonal geranium is the most widespread, with obvious ring patterns on the leaf surface; regal geranium has large and brightly colored flowers; scented geranium is prized for its fragrant leaves; ivy geranium has trailing branches and is suitable for hanging display. Different types differ in plant form, flower color and use, and can be selected according to the placement environment.

For care, Pelargonium prefers a sunny, well-ventilated environment; insufficient light easily leads to leggy growth and sparse flowering. Watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, and the potting soil must never remain waterlogged for a long time, so as to avoid root rot; the soil is best if loose and well-drained. During the growing season, light fertilizer can be applied frequently in small amounts, and after flowering, spent flowers should be cut off and the plant appropriately shortened, which can promote new branches and reblooming. In summer, when temperatures are high, the plant's growth slows, and shading and ventilation should be provided; in winter, move it indoors to protect it from the cold and avoid frost.

Pelargonium is mainly valued for ornamentation; small potted plants can accent windowsills and balconies, and can also be planted in groups in flowerbeds and borders. The leaves of types such as scented geranium contain aromatic oils and are one of the commonly used perfume raw materials. It should be noted that some people may experience skin discomfort when touching its sap, so it is advisable to wear gloves when pruning, and do not let young children and pets ingest it by mistake.
