The scientific name of the resurrection plant is Selaginella tamariscina, a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant of the genus Selaginella in the family Selaginellaceae. It can be seen growing in rock crevices and on cliff faces in many mountainous areas of China. It has this special name because its vitality is extremely tenacious: when it encounters drought, the whole plant curls up into a ball and looks as if it has withered and died, but once it absorbs water, the branches and leaves unfurl again and it revives, which is why people also call it the resurrection herb or the herb of long life.

This plant is usually not tall, with an upright main stem and fan-shaped, forked branchlets clustered at the tip; its leaves are small like scales and fresh green in color. It is drought-tolerant and tolerant of poor soil, and in the wild it mostly grows on sun-facing rock faces, with a relatively shallow root system, surviving by absorbing moisture from the air and from stone crevices, and it is not demanding about its environment.

In terms of its uses, the resurrection plant is both a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, with the dried whole plant usable as medicine, commonly used in folk practice for stopping bleeding and promoting blood circulation, though specific use should follow a doctor's advice; at the same time, it is also a rather ornamental plant, with a small and distinctive form, suitable for making bonsai or for planting in rockeries and moss micro-landscapes, where it adds a touch of wild mountain charm when placed indoors.

For home care, it should be placed in partial shade, avoiding strong direct sunlight; watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry out between waterings, preferring dryness over waterlogging, since long-term water accumulation easily causes root rot. When the weather is dry, you can spray water around the plant to increase humidity, and in winter simply keep it warm. It should be noted that although drought tolerance is its survival skill, if it is deprived of water for a long time, the plant's form will become messy and the leaf color will turn yellow; to achieve a better ornamental effect, moderate water management is still needed.
