Yushu Mudan was collected from the wild in April 2005 and rebloomed in April 2012. It is a red-to-green huilan (Chinese cymbidium) with multi-petal unusual flowers.
Grass-form characteristics: leaves are V- or U-shaped, slanting upright, about 40-50cm long and about 0.8-1.0cm wide, with fine serrations, a fine and glutinous texture, and smooth tips.
Flower-form characteristics: the flower stalk is slender, about 45-50cm tall, with blooms arranged in an irregular yet well-spaced manner; the flowers are large, about 7 cm in horizontal diameter and about 8cm tall, with 18-21 petals. Red turning green, the color is pure, tender green, and the butterfly-like coloration is bright and beautiful. It combines butterfly-like petals, double layers, jade tree, peony, and lion's head into one; each flower has 4-5 butterfly-like petals, the column has degenerated, and the petals are inset with milky white crystals (masculinization). Delicate-fragrance type, the scent is pure and elegant.
Butterfly-like petals: most flowers have five butterfly-like petals, with at least three butterfly-like petals;
Double layers: there are generally two lower supports beneath the flower, each support with three petals, and one petal in the middle support is butterfly-like;
Jade tree: a tree-shaped flower, arranged in an irregular yet well-spaced manner, with 5-7 flowers per scape;
Peony: the top flower opens facing upward, shaped like a peony;
Lion's head: apart from the top, the other petals extend with proper balance, like a majestic lion sitting upright, with extraordinary bearing.
