Hydroponic spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is a growing method that moves the spider plant from soil culture to clean water culture. The spider plant is a perennial evergreen herb, and its runners often carry a string of small plantlets, which look very ornamental when hung down. Compared with soil culture, hydroponics is cleaner and more hygienic, is less likely to breed small insects, and lets you see the pure white roots through a transparent container, making it elegant and distinctive on a windowsill or desk.

The key points of hydroponic spider plant care are water changes and lighting. In the early stage, you can change the water every few days, and after the roots grow stable, appropriately extend the interval; the water level should preferably cover most of the roots, and do not soak the whole plant in water. Usually place it in a position with bright, scattered light and avoid prolonged exposure to strong sun; in summer high temperatures and winter low temperatures, pay attention to shading and keeping it warm, and regularly add a few drops of nutrient solution to the water, and the leaves will be more glossy.

There are quite a few spider plant varieties suitable for hydroponics, commonly including the golden-edged spider plant, silver-edged spider plant, and green-leaf spider plant, and their ability to adapt to a water environment is relatively strong. Cut the small plantlets on the runners and put them in clean water, and they will quickly take root, making propagation very easy.

In daily care, if you find yellowing leaf tips, soft leaves, or blackened and rotting roots, it is mostly related to deteriorating water quality, overly strong light, or not changing the water for a long time. At this time, promptly cut off the rotten roots, clean the container, and replace with new water, and it will generally recover slowly. As long as the water quality is kept clean and the light is suitable, the hydroponic spider plant can stay green all year round.
