Snapdragon is a herbaceous flowering plant in the genus Antirrhinum of the family Plantaginaceae (formerly Scrophulariaceae), often grown as an annual or biennial. Its flowers are arranged in spikes along the flower stem, and the corolla resembles the pouting mouth of a little goldfish; gently pinch both sides of the flower and the fish mouth opens and closes, which is how it got its name. In folk usage it is also called dragon-head flower, dragon-mouth flower, and foreign colorful sparrow.

The snapdragon's flower language is usually interpreted as good luck, liveliness, and festivity. Because its flower colors are brilliant and the atmosphere is lively when it blooms in masses, people often regard it as an auspicious flower that brings celebration. Depending on the color, common sayings hold that red implies great fortune, yellow symbolizes a house full of gold and silver, pink represents a happy union, and purple carries the beautiful meaning of good fortune arriving from the east. These meanings mostly come from folk tradition passed down by word of mouth, and when giving them as gifts you can choose a suitable color according to the occasion.

In terms of uses, snapdragons have a long flowering period and rich flower colors, and are often used for flowerbed edging and mass plantings for landscaping; they are also suitable for potted display on balconies and windowsills. Their flower stems are upright and last a long time in a vase, making them a common cut-flower material as well. In daily care, snapdragons like a sunny, cool, and well-ventilated environment; water them by letting the soil dry before watering again, and avoid waterlogged potting soil that can cause root rot. Ensure plenty of light during the flowering period, and the flower colors will be even more vivid.

Many flower lovers wonder whether it can be placed indoors. Snapdragons are mainly ornamental, and putting them in a bedroom or living room is no problem, as long as you choose a spot with good light and remember to open the windows often for ventilation to keep the plant in good condition.
