The goldfish plant blooms like little goldfish, easy to grow and grows like crazy, filling the balcony in 2 months
The goldfish plant is much prettier than the ordinary spider plant
The goldfish plant, also known as the goldfish flower or kangaroo plant, is a semi-woody plant with dark green, relatively thick leaves. Its flowers are orange-yellow, with a small mouth and a big belly, closely resembling a little goldfish, and it is deeply loved.
The goldfish plant comes from the tropics, prefers shade and moisture, and rarely attracts pests or diseases. Compared with roses and gardenias, it is simply so much easier to grow. Now Huahua will introduce how to grow the goldfish plant~
Care of the goldfish plant
Choosing the plant
Choose goldfish plants with a full and neat shape, plump and translucent leaves, and stems that are not leggy, preferably with buds. Avoid getting a goldfish plant in winter, as the temperature is too low and it is prone to frost damage and will not bloom.
Pot and soil
When repotting the goldfish plant, simply move it into a clay or ceramic pot 2~3 cm larger in diameter than the original pot.
The goldfish plant likes moisture and has relatively high requirements for soil. Generally, use peat soil, leaf mold and vermiculite mixed in a 6:3:2 ratio.
Ordinary mountain soil and garden soil are not suitable for growing the goldfish plant, as they tend to compact and have poor water and air permeability.
It is recommended to use some coarse river sand as a top dressing, which can help retain water and allow air through.
Watering
The goldfish plant likes moisture. In spring, summer and autumn, water it more, generally in the evening, once every 2~3 days, watering whenever the soil is dry, and keep to the frequency.
When the temperature is too high in summer, you can use the soaking method, placing the flower pot in a shallow dish of water to keep it moist. Usually, pay attention to sprinkling water around the goldfish flower to maintain air humidity.
When watering, be careful not to water the leaves. Light will be reflected through the water droplets, and the thin leaves may get sunburned.
Light
The goldfish plant likes shade. In summer, when the sunlight is too strong, it needs shading. Generally, we can just place it at a window on the shady side.
In winter and spring, when it is about to bloom, pay attention to increasing light, otherwise it will not bloom. When it is leggy, also increase light to inhibit its growth.
Fertilizing
When preparing the soil, you can add a little chicken manure or cake fertilizer to increase the nutrients in the potting soil.
Usually, you can dilute fermented rice water 20 times and apply it to the goldfish plant, watering about once every half a month.
Be careful not to fertilize while it is blooming. Before blooming, you can spray some 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to promote blooming. After blooming, you can apply nitrogen fertilizer, mainly to grow the leaves.
Pruning
If you want the goldfish plant to grow luxuriantly, pay attention to pinching off the tips and removing the growing points, otherwise it is very easy for it to become leggy and not bloom.
Cut off the branches at the top of the goldfish plant, which can promote the growth of side branches.
Propagation of the goldfish plant
Propagating the goldfish plant by cuttings is very simple; just use a cut branch.
Cut a branch about 15 cm long, leave it in a cool, ventilated place to dry, then insert it into river sand soil, water it thoroughly, and it will take root after two weeks.
After it takes root, transplant the goldfish plant seedling into a pot, using the soil mentioned above.
Then you will have another pot of little cuties~
