What to Do When Goldfish Plant Leaves Develop Yellow Spots? Causes and Solutions
1. Causes
First you need to find out what factor is causing its leaves to develop spots, so that you can take the corresponding measures according to the different situations. The disease that causes spots on the leaves is generally leaf spot disease, but the goldfish plant rarely suffers from diseases; most cases are caused by improper care, such as root rot from overwatering, which leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the leaves, making them turn yellow and develop spots. A lack of light and other factors can also cause yellow spots.
2. Solutions
Generally speaking, finding a new flowerpot and replanting will solve all the problems. Put equal amounts of peat soil, perlite and vermiculite into the new flowerpot, keep the soil acidic, then take out the plant with the yellow spots, making sure it keeps its root ball to protect the roots, then place it into the flowerpot, and after some time the leaves will return to normal. If you find this method troublesome, you might as well start by improving the external conditions for its growth.
First, water it properly. Although it likes a humid environment, water must not accumulate in the pot. The best way to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged is to water once in the morning and once in the evening. If the leaves look a little listless, you can spray a suitable amount of water on the branches and leaves to prevent the leaves from lacking water.
Second, pay attention to suitable light. It does not like light very much and prefers to grow in semi-shade. In spring and autumn, we should avoid placing it in a place with too strong light. In the hot summer, when the light intensity is especially strong, we can only let it receive some slanting light in the morning and evening.
If the center of the spots is light brown and accompanied by concentric rings, then it is not simply improper cultivation, but leaf spot disease. This disease should be properly prevented, and once the plant is found to be infected with leaf spot disease, medicine should be bought promptly and sprayed. It is best to use 75 percent chlorothalonil 700 times solution, spraying the diseased leaves once every seven or eight days, and after two or three times it will basically be cured.
