Gladiolus flower meaning symbolizes remembrance and rising step by step, suitable for gifting to elders and teachers

Gladiolus, whose scientific name is Gladiolus gandavensis, is a perennial bulbous flower of the iris family (Iridaceae). It gets its name because its leaves are narrow, long, and upright, shaped like a sword. Together with Chinese rose, chrysanthemum, and carnation, it is known as one of the world's famous cut flowers. Its flower stem is slender, and the small flowers bloom in sequence from the bottom upward, giving it a long vase life, which makes it a common material in bouquets and floral arrangements.

The flower meaning of gladiolus mainly includes remembrance, devotion, rising step by step, and fortune and prosperity. Because the flowers open along the spike from the bottom upward, people often regard it as a symbol of career progress and ever-improving life. It is suitable for gifting to teachers and elders, and is also often used on happy occasions such as business openings and housewarmings to express good wishes. In the Western tradition of flower meanings, gladiolus is also associated with secret meetings and longing, carrying concern for someone far away.

Gladiolus of different colors also has different meanings. Red gladiolus symbolizes passion and intimacy, yellow gladiolus mostly represents respect and friendship, pink gladiolus gives a warm and romantic feeling, and white gladiolus symbolizes purity and elegance. When choosing, you can select a suitable color according to the occasion and the recipient, so that your feelings can be expressed more appropriately.

In terms of daily care, gladiolus likes a sunny, well-ventilated environment and dislikes waterlogging and stuffiness. When used as a cut flower in a vase, it is recommended to change the water frequently and cut the flower stems at an angle, so the flowers can open more fully and last longer. In addition, the corms of gladiolus are generally not for consumption. If there are children or pets at home, they should be placed out of easy reach.
