How to manage wampee after grafting? These methods you need to master
With the development of agricultural technology, for farmers growing wampee fruit trees, grafting can relatively improve the tree's growth vigor and also increase yield and quality, making it a fairly practical method for producing wampee. However, if care is neglected after grafting wampee, it may also lead to grafting failure. So how should wampee be managed after grafting? Let's learn about it together with the editor.

1. Check survival
15-20 days after grafting wampee, the young buds of the scion begin to sprout and germinate. At this time, you should check the survival of the grafted seedlings. Seedlings with fresh grafted buds and leaf stalks that fall off at a touch indicate that they have survived. For seedlings that have not survived, timely re-grafting should be carried out, and the re-grafted variety should be the same as the originally grafted variety.
2. Untying
When grafting wampee, the grafting interface is wrapped and covered completely with plastic film. After the scion sprouts, it will automatically break through the binding plastic film and grow upward. When the first new shoot matures, that is, when the leaves turn green, the grafting interface has basically healed, so plastic film wrapping is no longer needed, and at this time the plastic film will also affect the growth of young buds. At this time, you can use a knife to make a cut on the back side of the wrapping film, so that the film strip loosens and breaks.
3. Bud wiping and trunk determination
After grafting wampee, the axillary buds on the rootstock will germinate after ten days to half a month. At this time, you should inspect and promptly wipe them off, so as to concentrate nutrients to supply the growth of the scion. After the young buds of the scion germinate, excessive buds should also be thinned according to the principle of keeping the strong and removing the weak, and keeping the upright and removing the crooked, leaving only one robust young bud as the main trunk. When the seedling grows to 50-60 cm, the trunk can be determined. The method is to cut the top at 45-50 cm above the seedling height, and below the cut there should be 3-4 buds with plump bud eyes and moderate bud spacing. After germination, select and keep 34 robust new shoots in different directions, and cultivate them into main branches.
4. Fertilization methods
Fertilization can begin after the first new shoot sprouted from the scion matures. At this time, mainly apply diluted fertilizer liquid, such as manure water diluted 10 times and a 5% compound fertilizer aqueous solution mainly containing nitrogen. After that, fertilize once before each shoot flush and during the new shoot growth period, mainly based on leaf color. If the base fertilizer is sufficient and the soil organic matter content is high, generally a large amount of fertilizer is not needed. In the early stage of grafted seedlings, attention should be paid to watering during drought and drainage during waterlogging, preventing excessive dryness or wetness, keeping the soil moist, and meeting the water requirements of the seedlings.
