How to Fertilise Lychee After Fruit Harvest

Lychee is a fruit that everyone loves to eat, and its planting area in our country is also very large. When growing lychee, fertilisation work is very important, as it is a key measure to meet the nutritional needs of lychee flowering and fruiting. When fertilising, we should carry out the fertilisation work according to the growth stages of the lychee. Among these, particular attention should be paid to the period after fruit harvest, so how do you fertilise lychee after fruit harvest? Let's take a look together below!

1. Fertilisation Methods

When fertilising lychee after fruit harvest, the main fertilisation method is primarily soil application. We should first dig a ring-shaped trench about 30 cm deep and about 20 cm wide beneath the canopy of the lychee tree. Then directly scatter the fertiliser into the trench and cover it with soil, to avoid fertiliser volatilisation. If conditions permit, we can use soybean bran, peanut bran, etc. to make water-soluble fertiliser, soaking and composting it for about one month until it is fully decomposed and has no sour or foul odour before applying it.

Before harvesting the lychee fruit, we should also apply a liquid fertiliser once, combined with the heavy fertilisation after harvest, and the effect is very obvious. If the lychee tree has a large fruit load, or the tree vigour is weak, then in addition to the heavy soil application of fertiliser, we should also spray an appropriate amount of foliar fertiliser after fruit harvest. The foliar fertiliser is generally based on compound nucleotides, sprayed about three times, with each spraying interval maintained at about 7 days. This prompts the rapid sprouting of new shoots and recovery of tree vigour. Finally, when the leaves turn green again, attention should be paid to spraying once more to promote the maturation of the fruiting mother branches.

2. Fertilisation Amount

When fertilising, attention should be paid to controlling the fertilisation amount well. We should adjust the actual fertilisation amount according to the tree age, growth vigour, fruit load and other actual conditions. At the same time, it should also be combined with the cultivation of autumn shoots of the fruit tree and the soil fertility. For example, if the annual yield is about 80 kg, then applying about 2 kg of ammonium bicarbonate or urea is sufficient. Combine with an appropriate amount of peanut bran or dry fertiliser, and also pay attention to applying a small amount of phosphorus and potassium fertiliser, ensuring it meets the nutrients needed for its growth.

3. Points to Note

Of course, after lychee fruit harvest, there are also many points that require our attention. For example, when applying farmyard manure such as chicken manure or pig manure, we should first pay attention to adding an appropriate amount of lime or superphosphate to fully decompose it before application. When applying fertilisers such as peanut bran, it should be mixed with some pesticides such as carbofuran, which can both prevent underground pests and avoid root burn. Finally, if the soil is mainly sandy soil, then the application amount of organic fertiliser should be appropriately increased to improve the soil properties and enhance the soil's water and fertiliser retention capacity.

The above is a brief introduction on how to fertilise lychee after fruit harvest. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can be helpful to everyone!
