How to manage bananas that shoot buds late? These key points you need to master
If bananas shoot buds only after the end of October, they often suffer frost damage, resulting in undersized fruit, low yield and poor quality; growers call these "snow bananas." So how should bananas that shoot buds late be managed? Follow along with the editor to learn more.

1. Topdressing with fruit-fattening fertilizer
After bananas grow short leaves, they will soon bolt and flower, so fruit-fattening fertilizer should be applied early to supply the bananas with sufficient nutrients and help the fruit fill out as quickly as possible. Quick-acting fertilizer is best for fruit fattening; generally apply 0.4 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer per plant in a shallow ring-shaped trench about 1 m from the banana stem, combined with intertillage and earthing up, or apply 10-12 kg of human excrement and urine per plant, once every 7-10 days for 2-3 consecutive times.
2. Spraying foliar fertilizer
Spraying foliar fertilizer on bananas can prevent premature leaf senescence, enhance the plant's cold resistance, and make the fruit ripen early, plump and clean yellow. After bud shooting, spray 400 g of monopotassium phosphate per mu diluted in 100 kg of water, spraying as evenly and thoroughly as possible. It is best to spray after 3 p.m. on a cloudy day or a sunny day, once a week for 2-3 consecutive times.
3. Irrigation and freezing prevention
Winter air is dry, and banana plants consume a lot of water and show symptoms of water deficiency, making them highly susceptible to freezing injury. Therefore, irrigate promptly before or after frost, and keep the soil moist at ordinary times; this is an important measure for preventing freezing in bananas.
4. Smoke fumigation for freezing prevention
On the night of the frost, you can mix sawdust, rice husks or the dry residue left after rural black fungus production with diesel oil and light a fire to produce smoke, so as to raise the temperature of the microclimate in the banana plantation and reduce the degree of freezing damage to the bananas. You can also spray water on the plants on the morning of the second day after the frost to wash off the frost water on the plants and leaves, minimizing freezing damage as much as possible.
