Causes of cherry fruit drop during the ripening period and control methods

Cherry is currently one of the precious fruits on the market, with high market demand and high prices, so the number of people growing it is gradually increasing, and the phenomenon of fruit drop during the cherry ripening period is also becoming more and more serious. There are mainly two causes of cherry fruit drop during the ripening period: one is physiological fruit drop, and the other is non-physiological fruit drop. Let's take a look at each cause and the control methods together below.

I. Physiological fruit drop

The cause of physiological fruit drop in cherries is mainly due to a lack of trace elements. The solutions are as follows:

1. Supplement trace elements. You can spray foliar fertilizer containing trace elements onto the plants, for example, spraying fulvic acid salt Ruilv or Jinhubao, etc., on the leaves, which can significantly reduce the phenomenon of cherry fruit drop.

2. Increase the application of biological fertilizer. In addition to conventional fertilization, attention should also be paid to applying more biological fertilizer, which can promote plant root growth, ensure the roots absorb all kinds of nutrients evenly, and slow down the fruit drop phenomenon.

3. Root irrigation. In addition to foliar spraying, you can also use Jinhubao, Lvlishen, Haili, Jiakefeng, and Qianglizhuanggen agent for root irrigation to promote root growth and slow down fruit drop.

II. Non-physiological fruit drop

1. Causes

There are many causes of non-physiological fruit drop. First, a single cultivated variety or improper arrangement of pollinator trees causes severe flower and fruit drop; second, insufficient tree nutrition means there are not enough nutrients to supply fruit growth, so the fruit naturally drops; third, unreasonable temperature and humidity control. Too high a temperature before or after flowering will damage the floral organs and aggravate physiological fruit drop. Too high humidity in the floral organs will also cause pollen to absorb water and become sticky, leading to pollination difficulties; fourth, extensive management causes severe pests and diseases, aggravating severe flower and fruit drop.

2. Control methods

Pollination arrangements with the same flowering period should be set up. The ratio of main cultivated varieties to pollinator varieties is best at 3:1 or 2:1. In this way, even under poor climatic conditions during the flowering period, they can still pollinate each other. During the fruit hard-core stage, strengthen fertilizer and water management to ensure the supply of nutrients and water and effectively reduce fruit drop. On the basis of increasing base fertilizer application, topdressing should be done in time during the fruit growth and development process. A mixed solution of low-concentration urea and monopotassium phosphate can be sprayed to meet the fruit's nutrient needs.
