Crispy Red Plum Planting Techniques

Crispy Red Plum is an excellent variety among plums, with crisp flesh and a sweet taste. It is quite popular on the market, so many people like to grow this fruit. So how should Crispy Red Plum be planted? Let's learn about it together.

1. Orchard Site Selection

Crispy Red Plum does not have particularly strict requirements for soil, but its root system is mostly distributed in the surface layer of the soil, and it is a fruit that is not tolerant of waterlogging. Therefore, when planting, sandy soil that is not prone to water accumulation and has deep soil layers should be chosen, and a site with high, dry terrain and sunny exposure should be selected, taking care that it is sheltered from the wind. Before planting, the soil must be deeply plowed and improved to ensure sufficient base fertilizer. When expanding the planting holes the following year, this will be beneficial to the growth of new roots, and appropriate intercropping can also be done.

2. Planting

The best planting time is about December to January of the following year. Before planting, first break up the topsoil, mix it with decomposed base fertilizer, and then backfill it. Then cover the soil with a thin layer of soil. Finally, place the seedling upright in the middle of the hole. When covering with soil, gently lift the seedling to encourage the roots to spread out and fully contact the soil. After covering with soil, with the seedling as the center, pile it into a shape that is high inside and level with the ground outside. This helps the planting hole retain fertilizer and moisture and prevents water accumulation in the hole, which would affect the normal growth of the seedling.

3. Pruning

After the sapling is planted, when its trunk reaches a height of 50-60 cm, timely head it back, promptly remove the buds below 30 cm in height, and keep the plump buds at 30-60 cm in height. When new shoots grow to 2 cm, choose 4-5 with relatively large angles, select vigorously growing new shoots as the main branches, and prune the other new shoots from the base to facilitate the cultivation of vigorous main branches. After 4 years of planting, Crispy Red Plum enters the initial fruiting stage, and after 6 years it enters the full fruiting stage. At this time, the amount of fruit is relatively large, and losses are likely during picking, so short pruning can be carried out.

4. Pest and Disease Control

Pest and disease control focuses on prevention. In winter, eliminate insect eggs and apply lime sulfur mixture to the base of the trunk. In spring, spray the trunk and surrounding ground with dichlorvos powder or phoxim to prevent pests from entering the trunk.
