Lemon bagging time and method

The lemons we see in daily life are all bright yellow on the outside, and this is because bagging during their growth process has many benefits. Bagging can not only improve the appearance quality of the fruit, but also reduce pesticide residues, so many farmers bag their lemons. So how should lemons be bagged? Let's take a look together.

1. Bagging time

For lemons from the spring flowering and fruiting period, bagging is suitable in June-July; for the summer flowering and fruiting period, bagging is suitable in August-September. After bagging, the fruit must be ensured 70-90 days of growth time, so as to achieve the best bagging effect. If bagging is too early, it is not conducive to fruit growth; if bagging is too late, the bagging effect is relatively poor.

2. Bag selection

The choice of bag is also relatively important. Choose an opaque wood pulp paper bag with 50g outer paper and 40g inner paper. The bag is required to have good moisture resistance, tensile strength and permeability, with matte oil; it should not soak through below the surface when treated with alcohol, should not break apart when rubbed in water, and water droplets on the surface should not spread. Only in this way can it avoid rotting in cloudy and rainy days and affecting the bagging effect. After opening the bag, look through it toward the light from the inside out to check for sand holes. If there are holes, it proves that its quality is relatively poor and it is not recommended to choose it.

3. Bagging method

Before bagging, pests and diseases must be well controlled, and fruits with smooth peel, good fruit shape, no disease or insect spots, and a fruit diameter of about 3.5cm should be selected for bagging. When bagging, first open the paper bag with your fist, then put one paper bag over one fruit, and place the fruit in the middle part of the bag. It is not suitable to let the fruit touch the bag surface, so as to avoid sunburn. The bag opening should be flatly crossed at the fruit stalk. After putting the fruit in, gather the bag opening and twist the tie wire pre-embedded at the edge of the bag at the fruit stalk to seal it.

4. Precautions for bagging

1-2 days before bagging the fruit, spray the tree body and fruit surface evenly and thoroughly once with fungicide and insecticide. After the pesticide on the fruit surface dries, bagging can be carried out. If lime sulfur mixture has been sprayed, bagging should be done 5-7 days after spraying to avoid burning the fruit. Fruit that has not been sprayed cannot be bagged, fruit with poor early pest and disease control cannot be bagged, fruit cannot be bagged when the pesticide solution is not dry, cannot be bagged when the dew is not dry, cannot be bagged on rainy days, and cannot be bagged at noon under high temperature and strong light. After bagging, the bag opening should face downward. If drought occurs after bagging, irrigate promptly and cover with rice straw and stalks to increase humidity and lower temperature.
