Precautions during the pineapple harvest period

Pineapple is one of the four famous tropical and subtropical fruits in China, generally grown in Hainan, Taiwan, China, Guangdong and Guangxi, and summer is the peak season for pineapples on the market. So do you know how pineapples are harvested? What should be noted during harvest? Let's take a look.

1. Harvest at the right time

The harvest time of pineapple must be appropriate; too early or too late will affect the quality of the fruit. The harvest time depends on the condition of the fruit, and the maturity of the fruit can be judged by its peel color and the sound when tapped with a finger. If it is to be sold to distant places, it is suitable to harvest when the fruit is 70% to 80% ripe, when the small fruits at the base of the fruit begin to turn yellow, the fruit surface changes from green to yellow-green, the white bloom falls off, and the flesh begins to soften; when the flesh color changes from white to yellow, it is suitable for harvest for long-distance transport. If it is sold locally or for short-distance sales, the maturity can be slightly higher.

2. Harvest time

The best time to harvest pineapple is after the morning dew has dried. It should not be harvested in overcast and rainy weather, so as to prevent rainwater from penetrating the fruit and causing fruit rot during transport or storage, which would affect fruit quality and returns and cause huge losses. When harvesting, handle the fruit gently to avoid mechanical damage, which would give pathogens an opportunity. After harvesting, grade the pineapples according to size, remove fruits damaged by pests, diseases or mechanical injury, and move them at random to a cool, ventilated place; after they are slightly dry, carry out grading and packaging.

3. Fertilizing after fruit harvest

After harvesting the winter fruit, it is necessary to clean the orchard and fertilize in time. Burn or compost the weeds and fallen leaves in the orchard in a centralized way, then apply fertilizer to restore tree vigor. Use high-quality organic fertilizer and nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer as the main types, and appropriately increase the proportion of potassium fertilizer. This can improve the plant's nutritional level, enhance its cold resistance so as to avoid frost damage, and at the same time increase nutrient accumulation, promote the tree vigor to recover as soon as possible, and enable the plants to grow as quickly as possible when spring arrives.

4. Storage work

The paraffin wax coating storage method can be used. When the fruit is 70% to 80% ripe, select undamaged fruits for storage. Put paraffin wax into a pot and boil it; after it cools slightly and congeals, dip the pineapple into the wax liquid and immediately take it out, so that the fruit surface is evenly coated and sealed with a layer of wax, then place it in a suitable environment for storage. This method can keep pineapples fresh for more than 45 days at room temperature, and the peel remains fresh, maintaining the original color, aroma and taste.
