How to grow rambutan from seed? Key technical points explained in one article
Rambutan can be propagated both sexually and asexually, but in production we usually use asexual propagation for planting. However, today the editor will share with you the seedling cultivation technique of sexual propagation of rambutan, because seedling cultivation by asexual propagation is the foundation of asexual propagation, since seedlings grown from seed are usually used as rootstock seedlings. So let's study the content below together.

1. Seed selection and washing
To ensure the quality of rambutan seedlings, we also pay great attention to seed selection. First, we must choose excellent rambutan varieties according to local conditions, such as the high-yielding Baoyan No. 5 seed. Second, choose seeds that are plump, not moldy, free of spots, and free of pests and diseases. After selecting the seeds, put them in clean water and wash them, cleaning off residual sugar or other substances on the seeds. It is best to wash them two to three times to avoid the phenomenon of not washing them clean.
2. Seedbed preparation
After selecting the seeds, we need to prepare the seedbed construction. Generally, a sand bed is built in a shaded place. The river sand used for the sand bed should be coarse river sand; fine river sand is not very suitable for rambutan seedling cultivation because it will affect the sprouting of rambutan. Second, we should reasonably plan the size of the seedbed, mainly according to the quantity sown. The height of the seedbed should be controlled at about 18 to 20 cm, and the width at about 1 m to 1.5 m, which is convenient for later seedling management. Finally, the seedbed should be leveled, and drainage measures should be taken to avoid seed rot.
3. Germination promotion treatment
Rambutan seeds need germination promotion treatment before sowing, which can increase the germination rate of the seeds. Place the selected seeds evenly on the sand bed with the eye facing down, and it is best to press them properly, which can increase the germination speed of the seeds. After placing the seeds, cover them with a layer of fine river sand to achieve heat preservation and moisture retention. Finally, build a shade net over the seedbed to regulate light intensity, water once, and soak the seedbed thoroughly. During the germination promotion period, we also need to spray trichlorfon solution once, which can prevent pests from damaging the seeds.
4. Seedling management
Germination promotion generally takes about half a month to 20 days. During this period, we must keep the seedbed moist, that is, spray water frequently, but the amount of watering should be moderate, because too dry or too wet is not conducive to seed germination. In cool weather, spraying water once a day is generally enough, but if it is sunny, it needs to be sprayed once in the morning and once in the evening; and if there is rainy weather, drainage should be carried out in time. Also, before the seeds germinate, weeds will also appear in the field, so we need to pull them by hand. After the seeds emerge, watering should be stopped for a period to let them adapt to the environment, and watering should be carried out after five days, while appropriately applying additional fertilizer to promote seedling growth.
That is basically all there is to growing rambutan seedlings by seed propagation. In fact, its seed propagation is relatively simple, but if large-scale planting is to be carried out, it is still better to use other propagation methods.
