Loquat Fertilization Techniques

Loquat is a perennial evergreen fruit tree that grows throughout all four seasons, so it has a relatively high demand for fertilizer. So how should loquat trees be fertilized? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction together.

I. Fertilization of Young Trees

The main purpose of fertilizing young trees is to promote their growth, help them form a canopy as quickly as possible, and bring them into flowering and fruiting earlier. Fertilization should be carried out according to their year-round growth and the characteristics of flushing new shoots in all four seasons. Generally, a shoot-promoting fertilizer should be applied once before each new flush sprouts, and half a month later, when the new shoots emerge, a shoot-strengthening fertilizer should be applied again. Fertilizing young trees should be light, with well-rotted human and livestock manure or quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer being suitable, applying frequently and lightly.

II. Fertilization of Fruiting Trees

1. Fruit-harvest fertilizer: Generally applied in May-June, it can promote the recovery of tree vigor, produce robust summer shoots, plump up the fruiting mother branches, and promote flower bud differentiation of the plant. Generally, 70-100 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer, 0.5 kg of urea, and 2 kg of phosphate fertilizer are applied per tree, dug in as a ring-shaped trench along the outer edge of the canopy.

2. Flower-promoting fertilizer: Applied in September-October before the loquat blooms, it can improve the cold resistance of young fruit, promote normal development of the flower organs, and increase the fruit-setting rate. Generally, 50 kg of human and livestock manure and urine plus 1 kg each of phosphate and potassium fertilizer are applied per tree.

3. Fruit-strengthening fertilizer: Applied in February-March, it can enhance tree vigor and promote the rapid expansion of young fruit, significantly increasing yield and quality. Apply 1 kg each of urea and phosphate fertilizer, and 1.5 kg of potassium fertilizer per tree.

4. Foliar fertilization: When fertilizing the soil, foliar fertilization should be carried out once every half month. A 0.3% urea solution can be used for spraying, and when the plant lacks certain elements, the corresponding nutrients can be sprayed.
