Star apple propagation methods

The star apple not only has high edible value, but its bark, sap, and seeds can all be used as medicine, and it also has extremely high medicinal value, so it is also a fruit tree project worth planting. So do you know what propagation methods the star apple has? How is it planted when different propagation methods are used? If you want to understand, let us read the introduction below.

1. Seed propagation

When the star apple is propagated by seed, we must select ripe fruit, pile and compost the fruit, and after the peel softens, wash it clean by rubbing with clean water, select plump seeds and dry them. Before sowing, we must prepare a seedbed, generally spreading nutrient soil mixed with river sand on the bed surface, then evenly scatter the seeds, cover with a thin layer of nutrient soil, water once, and build a shade shed to wait for seedlings to emerge. During the stage when the seeds emerge, we must spray water frequently to keep the bed surface moist and promote seed germination.

2. Cutting propagation

When the star apple is planted by cutting propagation, we first need to prepare a seedbed. The cutting seedbed is mainly made by mixing coconut coir and yellow subsoil, and two days before cutting, the seedbed must be disinfected. Then we need to select healthy branches with plump buds as cuttings, properly prune the cuttings, soak them in carbendazim liquid for about ten minutes, then soak them in rooting liquid or dip them in rooting powder, which helps the cuttings take root. Finally, insert the treated cuttings into the seedbed for seedling cultivation, and at the same time build a frame and keep the seedbed well ventilated. There is one more thing we need to pay attention to: in order to avoid the cuttings rotting, before new roots emerge, we need to frequently spray chlorothalonil.

3. Grafting propagation

The grafting technique for the star apple is actually the same as grafting other fruit trees. Grafted star apple trees are actually of better quality, and the growth period is also shorter, and it can also play a role in dwarfing the tree body, so ordinary growers generally use grafting propagation to plant the star apple. First, we need to use seed propagation to cultivate star apple seedlings to serve as rootstock, then select star apple branches of excellent quality, bearing many fruits, and free of pests and diseases to serve as scions, and use the cut grafting method for grafting propagation. During this period, what should be noted is that if we want the cut to heal quickly, we must prevent outside air from entering, and the plastic film used for tying must be tied tightly, with no air leakage, and at the same time we must wait until the cut has completely healed and new buds have grown before uncovering the tying band.

The propagation methods of the star apple are generally seed propagation, cutting propagation, and grafting propagation. Seed propagation is the most traditional propagation method, but in current production the most commonly used is still grafting, so everyone can focus on studying the specific operation process of grafting propagation.
