Sugarcane Planting Techniques

Sugarcane is a fruit we all know well. Its taste is sweet and juicy, and it is rich in nutrients. It is the raw material for making cane sugar. We have all eaten it in our daily lives, but do you know how it is grown? Come and take a look at sugarcane planting techniques with the editor below.

1. Deep plowing and land preparation

When preparing the land for sugarcane, it is recommended to use machinery, as this is relatively efficient. Plowing to a depth of about 35 cm is appropriate. Plow repeatedly to make the soil loose and mellow, and once that is done, level it. After that comes making the sugarcane furrows, which is relatively important. Generally, the row spacing for paddy fields is about 120 cm, while for hillside land it is kept at 40 cm, with the furrow bottom at about 20 cm. Some fine, crumbly soil should also be added. Once this is done, wait for sowing.

2. Cultivating seed stems

First, select excellent varieties. There is no doubt about this, especially when planting in paddy fields and low-lying land, where choosing good varieties for planting is even more important. Generally, the sowing time is around December. Good sugarcane should be selected and buried in the soil in advance. The sugarcane to be buried must be carefully chosen, and at the same time the joints near the roots should be cut off, then buried in the soil and given a little water. In about a week, it will sprout. After sprouting, separate them according to their sprouting condition, divide the multiple sprouts, and choose a good one as seed for planting.

3. Sowing

When sowing, apply base fertilizer to promote seedling growth. Generally, 150 kg of compound fertilizer per mu is applied as base fertilizer, spread evenly into the furrow bottom, mixed with the soil at the bottom, and then covered with soil once more to prevent the seed stems from directly contacting the fertilizer and causing burns. After the divided seed stems are disinfected, sow them. When sowing, pay attention to the spacing, about 30 cm per mu, and bury them in the soil, but be careful to leave the sprouts exposed above the ground.

4. Fertilizing

After sowing, observe the growth of the sugarcane, and once problems are found, deal with them promptly. Another point to note is fertilizing. To obtain high yields, fertilizing is the key point. Generally speaking, sugarcane likes nitrogen fertilizer, which benefits its growth and can increase its sweetness, but it is still recommended to apply organic fertilizer, as this meets the requirements of environmental protection and health and cultivates green fruit.
