How to propagate Kadsura coccinea? A detailed guide to common propagation methods
Kadsura coccinea is a new type of fruit that has become popular in recent years. Although its planting area in China is not large, it has a certain market demand. At present, China's Kadsura coccinea market is still in a state of supply falling short of demand, so more and more people are starting to grow Kadsura coccinea. So how should we propagate it when growing Kadsura coccinea? Below, the editor brings you the propagation methods for Kadsura coccinea. Let's take a look!

1. Seed propagation
Seed propagation refers to sowing and propagation. Seedlings grown from seed have strong root capacity and fast growth, but the possibility of variation is also relatively high, and quality cannot be guaranteed. After harvesting the seeds, put them in wet sand and store them in a pile to prevent water evaporation from reducing the germination rate. Then sow in spring. Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer to the soil, make beds and shape them, and control the plant and row spacing to open furrows and dig holes for sowing. Place about two seeds in each sowing hole. After sowing, cover with fine soil, then cover with plastic film to improve the soil's moisture retention capacity. After seedlings emerge, remove the plastic film in time. After three true leaves grow, thin the seedlings once, and after five true leaves, set the seedlings. Do one intertillage and weeding operation, and apply topdressing about once a month.
2. Cutting propagation
In spring each year, cut off annual healthy branches free of pests and diseases, cut them into cuttings of about 12 cm, and each cutting should have about 4 buds, with one leaf retained at the top and excess leaves removed. Then cut the insertion end into a slanted cut; the larger the wound area, the greater the rooting rate. The cut should be kept smooth, then soak the cut in rooting agent for about half an hour to increase the rooting rate. The seedbed preparation work is the same as for seed propagation. Insert the cuttings obliquely into the seedbed with the lateral buds moist, then compact the soil and water thoroughly to increase the contact area between the cuttings and the soil. Do a good job of weeding during the rooting period. After rooting, apply appropriate topdressing, mainly applying more frequently but in small amounts, to prevent excessive amounts from causing the death of the cuttings.
3. Grafting propagation
Grafting propagation is the most commonly used propagation method for Kadsura coccinea, and there are many grafting methods. Taking bud grafting as an example, at a place about 8 cm from the ground on the rootstock, cut a notch of about 3 cm, then cut open half of the outer skin of the notch. Cut the bud from bottom to top into a bud piece, controlling the length at about 2.5 cm. Then insert the leaf into the notch, tie it tightly, then use a grafting clip to secure it and expose the leaf bud. After about a week, if the bud piece is fresh and the petiole falls off loosely, it means it has survived. If it has not survived, then graft again in time. After about 2-3 weeks, remove part of the leaves and vines to promote the growth of the grafted bud.
The above is a brief introduction to how to propagate Kadsura coccinea. Each propagation method has different advantages and disadvantages. Cutting propagation has a high survival rate, but its root capacity is weak and its growth is poor, so it should be planted appropriately densely. Although grafting propagation combines the advantages of seed propagation and cutting propagation, it is rather troublesome to operate. Therefore, everyone should reasonably choose a propagation method according to their own propagation techniques and planting direction.
