US Official Release of Vegetable and Fruit Nutritional Rankings
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a ranking of the nutrient density of various vegetables and fruits. I'm quickly sharing and explaining it for everyone here.
Previously, dietary guidance from the Ministry of Health recommended that eating certain healthy fruits and vegetables may reduce the occurrence of some chronic diseases. This nutritional ranking is intended to better define what is meant by "healthy fruits and vegetables" here.
The table below ranks various fruits and vegetables according to their nutrient density score.
The nutrient density score is calculated based on how many nutrients a food provides per 100 kilocalories of energy, and the nutrient amount is the weighted average of the percentages of the daily requirement per person contributed by each of the 17 important nutrients contained in that food. Foods with a nutrient density score above 10% are defined as healthy fruits and vegetables.
