Causes of and Preventive Measures for Out-of-Season Blooming in Pear Trees

Pear trees are widely distributed around the world. In our country, their cultivated area and production rank second only to apples, making them one of the most common fruits in our daily lives. However, during the cultivation of pear trees, out-of-season blooming occurs very easily, often causing huge losses to fruit growers. So what causes out-of-season blooming in pear trees? How can it be prevented? Let's take a look.

I. Causes of Out-of-Season Blooming

Out-of-season blooming in pear trees is mainly caused by three reasons. First, extensive management leads to relatively low nutrient accumulation in the tree, and the tree's stress resistance declines. Second, damage from pests and diseases causes early leaf drop. Third, under the influence of high temperatures or continuous rainy weather, flower buds that have already completed flower bud differentiation in June or September do not go through low-temperature dormancy, and in autumn, at suitable temperatures, they continue to sprout again, resulting in the phenomenon of out-of-season blooming.

II. Preventive Measures

1. Strengthen fertilizer and water management

Apply more organic fertilizer, improve soil structure, and increase the supply of nutrients to the tree. Generally, apply 70-100 kg of high-quality base fertilizer per tree. During the growing season, spray foliar fertilizer 3-5 times to extend the life of the leaves, increase photosynthesis, and complete nutrient accumulation. Irrigate promptly during drought, do drainage work well during the rainy season, and pay attention to irrigation before fruit harvest. Generally, during drought, water once every 7-0 days, which helps increase yield and quality.

2. Reasonable pruning

Prune promptly during the growing season, removing shaded branches, pest- and disease-damaged branches, dead branches, and weak branches to enhance the tree's ventilation and light penetration and cultivate good fruiting branches. During the flowering and fruiting period, thin flowers and fruits appropriately to maintain a reasonable load on the tree. Pruning should also be carried out after fruit harvest to avoid excessive nutrient consumption and promote budding the following year.

3. Remove flower buds and young fruit

For pear trees that bloom out of season or bear young fruit, promptly remove the flower buds and young fruit to save tree nutrients, increase nutrient accumulation in the tree, and avoid unnecessary consumption.

4. Strengthen pest and disease control

For pest and disease control, follow the principles of prevention first and integrated control. Understand the occurrence patterns of pests and diseases, and adopt a strategy based mainly on agricultural control, physical control, and biological control, with chemical control as a supplement. Pest and disease control should be carried out early. When using chemical control, note that applying pesticides half a month before fruit harvest is not advisable, to avoid pesticide residues in the fruit.
