Mango Bagging Technology

In China, mangoes are mainly concentrated in the southern tropical provinces, and China's annual demand for mangoes is now very large, so when planting, fruit farmers will do everything possible to increase mango yield. To increase mango yield, the main thing is to strengthen management and bag the fruit in time. Bagging is a very important task when growing mangoes. So what are the benefits of mango bagging? How should bagging be done? Let's take a look together below!

1. Benefits of Bagging

Bagging is the key to ensuring healthy growth of mango fruit. Reasonable bagging can prevent the fruit from being infected by pests and pathogens and cut off the transmission routes of pests and pathogens. It can also prevent damage to the fruit caused by insects, acid rain and other external natural factors. It provides good shading for the fruit and avoids sunburn caused by excessively strong light. It reduces friction between the mango and external substances, promotes fruit coloring, and improves nutrient accumulation in the fruit and the glossiness of the peel. At the same time, it can also prevent pesticides from contacting the mango fruit, which would cause pesticide residues and reduce quality.

2. Bagging Time

The specific bagging time for mangoes depends on the growth conditions of the mangoes. Generally, bagging is carried out when the mango fruit is the size of a ping-pong ball after the second fruit drop. Bagging should not be done too early or too late. If it is too early, the fruit stalk has not yet fully matured and is prone to breaking and injury, thus affecting the mid-to-late growth of the fruit. If bagging is too late, the effect of bagging will be significantly reduced or even become ineffective.

3. Preparation for Bagging

Before bagging, preparations for the fruit trees are also needed. First, shaping and pruning should be carried out, cutting off overly long, overly dense, crossing and overlapping branches to improve the ventilation and light penetration of the mango tree. Then cut off the fruit stalks of poorly shaped fruit to avoid excessive nutrient consumption. After pruning, apply fertilizer and spray pesticide once in time. When spraying, pay attention to the dosage of insecticides and fungicides to prevent phytotoxicity. Then appropriately spray foliar fertilizer to enhance leaf growth capacity and improve fruit set rate and quality. When the liquid has completely dried, bagging can be carried out.

4. Timely Bagging

For bagging, choose bags specially used for this purpose on the market. The better-performing bags are paper bags. Before bagging, place the paper bags in a place with higher humidity to increase their softness. Then, on a sunny day, choose plump fruit that is growing normally and free of pests and diseases for bagging. First open the paper bag wide enough, hold the fruit stalk with one hand, hold the paper bag with the other hand, and put the fruit into the paper bag. After putting it in, fold the opening of the paper bag toward the middle, then tie it at the fruit stalk to avoid the fruit touching the inside of the paper bag and being injured.

5. Precautions

When tying the bag, be careful that the opening of the bag is not too large, to prevent pests from crawling into the bag or liquid medicine from flowing into the bag and harming the fruit. Also be careful not to damage the stalk of the young fruit, and then make sure the drainage hole at the bottom faces downward to facilitate automatic drainage after rain. This prevents severe water accumulation from causing the fruit to mold and rot. Then remove the bags at the appropriate time according to the planted variety. For example, red mangoes should have their bags removed 2-3 weeks before harvest to promote color enhancement.

After all bagging work is completed, although the growth of the fruit has been guaranteed to a certain extent, the prevention and control of pests and diseases still cannot be taken lightly. We should regularly check the growth of the bagged fruit and deal with problems promptly when found. Then apply fertilizer in time to meet the nutritional needs of fruit growth and development.
