Why is the Crisp Honey Peach called the world's number one peach?
The Crisp Honey Peach is a new peach variety selected from a bud sport of the Yingqing peach. In 1997, it won the gold award at the First Hunan Province Forestry Famous, Special and Excellent New Products @#@119@#@ Expo, and was hailed as the "world's number one peach". At present, this variety has been adopted as the main promoted late-ripening peach variety in the south.
This variety generally weighs about 200 grams per fruit, with a maximum single fruit weight of 550 grams. The fruit is round and well-formed, symmetrical on both sides, with a slightly pointed tip. The fruit color is green-yellow with a red blush, bright and attractive. The flesh is greenish-white, densely sweet and crisp, with a pure aroma. When the fruit is 70% ripe, it already shows the excellent characteristics of aroma, sweetness and crispness combined in one; when fully ripe, the flesh remains crisp rather than mealy. Clingstone, purplish-red near the stone, small stone, with an edible rate of 95.18%. According to tests by the Hunan Horticultural Research Institute: the soluble solids content of this peach is 16%, total sugar content 11.49%, total acid content 0.46%, vitamin C content 9.2 mg/100 g, and the quality is extremely good. The fruit is resistant to storage and transportation, and can be stored for 10-15 days at room temperature; fresh fruit can be sold to major and medium-sized cities far away. Generally, it can bloom and bear trial fruit in the 2nd year after planting, and can bear heavily in the 3rd year; 4-5 year old peach trees can yield more than 2500 kg per 667 sq m, and they produce high yields every year with no distinction between on-years and off-years. This variety ripens relatively late, generally maturing in mid-to-late August in the Yangtze River basin. Because it ripens during the off-season for fruit, the market price can reach 8-12 yuan per kg, and in its place of origin Shenzhen @#@136@#@ it is 24 yuan per kg, more than double the price of large northern peaches, making it truly a treasure among peaches.
This variety has strong stress resistance and wide adaptability, and can be planted in most areas of central and southern China as well as the north, whether on plains, hills or mountains. Even if the flowering period encounters severe weather such as strong winds, low temperatures, or cloudy rain, it can still pollinate and bear fruit, and is well worth vigorous promotion.
