Introduction to the Large-Fruited Crystal Pear Variety and Its Fruit Characteristics
This variety is a new late-maturing yellow sand pear cultivar selected in South Korea from a bud mutation of the Niitaka pear. Its outstanding advantages are:
1. Large and attractive fruit: the fruit is round, with an average single-fruit weight of 500 grams; the skin is fine and delicate, appearing white to golden-yellow and translucent, with an extremely beautiful appearance.
2. Good quality: the flesh is dense and juicy, with no sourness, a soluble solids content of 14%, few stone cells, and a small core, giving a good taste.
3. Late ripening and good storability: the fruit ripens in early October, can be stored for 60 days at room temperature, and can be kept in cold storage until February of the following year.
4. Good productivity: because of its strong self-fruiting ability and strong compatibility with varieties such as Kosui and Qiyuesu, the fruit set rate of inflorescences is as high as 90%, and the fruit set rate of flowers is above 26%, with no pre-harvest fruit drop. It fruits mainly on spurs, has a strong ability to set fruit on axillary flower buds, and the saplings bear fruit the next year after planting, with a yield of 12 kilograms per plant in the third year.
5. Strong resistance: strong drought and cold resistance, and resistance to pear scab, anthracnose, and ring rot.
6. Great market potential; it is the preferred variety for export pears.
