Six management measures in the melon patch make melons sweeter

Widen the day-night temperature difference A larger day-night temperature difference helps the accumulation of photosynthetic products (sugars). During the fruiting stage of melons, the day-night temperature difference should be widened as much as possible. Generally, the daytime temperature inside the greenhouse should be kept at 30°C-35°C, the nighttime temperature at 13°C-14°C, and the day-night temperature difference at 16°C-18°C. Apply less chemical fertilizer and more organic fertilizer. Basing fertilization mainly on organic fertilizer and applying no or little chemical fertilizer is another effective measure to increase the sweetness of melons. Apply less chemical fertilizer and more organic fertilizer Basing fertilization mainly on organic fertilizer and applying no or little chemical fertilizer is another effective measure to increase the sweetness of melons. Generally, organic fertilizer is mainly chicken manure and soybean cake, and per mu a base application of 15 cubic meters of chicken manure and 100-150 kg of soybean cake can be made.

Increase potassium fertilizer application during the fruiting stage When soil nitrogen is high and potassium is low, the sweetness of melons will decrease noticeably. Therefore, during the melon fruiting stage, the amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be reduced and potassium fertilizer application increased. In the early fruiting stage, 8-10 kg of potassium fertilizer or 20 kg of high-potassium compound fertilizer can be applied per mu with irrigation water each time.

Control water before melons ripen If the soil moisture is too high during the ripening stage of melons, it will not only reduce the sweetness of the melons but also easily cause "watery rotten melons." Especially in the 10 days before melons are close to ripening, attention must be paid to controlling water.

Maintain sufficient light The greenhouse film should be wiped frequently, and leaves shading the area around the melons should be thinned out to enhance light penetration between plants.

Harvest at the proper time Generally, melons need 30-35 days of development to fully ripen, only then is the sugar content high and the flavor good. However, at present some melon growers often harvest early in order to bring the fruit to market sooner, which seriously reduces the sweetness of the melons. Therefore, harvesting at the proper time is the most basic measure to ensure the sweetness of melons.
